Charter Home Study Academy
2026–2027 Enrollment Process
At Charter Home Study Academy (CHSA), our enrollment process reflects our core values of Relationships, Innovation, and Partnership. We believe that strong communication, shared responsibility, and thoughtful preparation are essential to student success in our hybrid learning model.
Informational List Opens
Families may begin calling January 5, 2026, to be added to the informational list for new student enrollment.
Informational Meeting (Required)
All new applicants are required to attend an informational meeting before being considered for enrollment. These meetings are designed to ensure families understand CHSA’s instructional model, expectations, and the important role families play in supporting learning at home.
- Informational meetings will be held primarily on Fridays throughout January and February.
Required Documentation
To move forward in the enrollment process, families must submit the following documents:
- A birth certificate
- Immunization records
Submission of these documents is required for participation in the enrollment lottery. If your student has an IEP or a 504 plan, you can also share this information at the meeting.
Lead Teacher Preparation Meetings (February-March)
Group meetings with grade-level lead teachers will be held to help families understand academic expectations, instructional practices, and what to expect at each grade level within Charter Home Study Academy.
These meetings support early relationship-building and strengthen the home–school partnership.
Enrollment Priority
In accordance with California charter law, enrollment priority will be given in the following order, as applicable:
- Currently enrolled CHSA students (continuing students)
- Siblings of currently enrolled CHSA students
- Children of CHSA employees
- Students residing within the authorizing district (subject to lottery)
- All other eligible applicants (subject to lottery)
If enrollment requests exceed available space, a public lottery will be conducted.
Enrollment Lottery
Applicants who have attended an informational meeting and submitted required documentation will be entered into the enrollment lottery.
- The lottery will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Families who have been offered enrollment will have one week to complete all required Aeries enrollment paperwork to secure their student’s placement.
Disciplinary Stipulations
Charter Home Study Academy is committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment. Enrollment eligibility may be reviewed for students with a history of suspension, stipulated expulsion, local district expulsion, SARB involvement, or other significant disciplinary actions.
- Final determination of enrollment appropriateness will be made by the Assistant Superintendent in charge of Charter Programs, or designee, prior to enrollment.
Student Assessments (July)
Office staff will schedule assessment appointments for all newly enrolled students.
- Grades K–3: Paper-based assessments
- Grades 4–8: Computer-based assessments
First Day of School
The first day of school is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 10, 2026.
Enrollment Lottery Process
2026–2027 School Year
Charter Home Study Academy conducts a public lottery when enrollment requests exceed available space. The lottery process is designed to be transparent, equitable, and compliant with California charter school law.
Step 1: Determine Available Openings
Enrollment capacity is first determined by grade level after accounting for returning students. The number of open seats available for the 2026–2027 school year is outlined below:
Step 2: Lottery Begins with Grade 6
Due to the larger number of available openings and the transition into middle school, the lottery process will begin with Grade 6. Available Grade 6 seats will be filled first through the lottery process.
Step 3: Sibling Placement
After Grade 6 lottery placements are made, sibling priority will be applied where space is available.
- Siblings of currently enrolled students or newly accepted students will be offered placement after the initial Grade 6 lottery, provided there is available capacity in the requested grade level.
- Sibling placement is contingent upon space and does not exceed grade-level enrollment caps.
Step 4: Remaining Grade-Level Lottery
Once Grade 6 placements and applicable sibling placements are complete, the lottery will proceed by grade level to fill remaining open spots as listed above.
Step 5: Enrollment Confirmation
Families offered placement through the lottery will have one week to complete all required enrollment paperwork in Aeries to secure their student’s placement.
Failure to complete paperwork within the allotted time may result in the spot being offered to the next student on the waitlist.
Failure to complete paperwork within the allotted time may result in the spot being offered to the next student on the waitlist.
Step 6: Waitlist
Applicants not offered immediate placement will be placed on a grade-level waitlist and may be offered enrollment if space becomes available prior to the start of the school year.
