Family Dance was out of this World!
Thank you once again to our phenominal parent volunteers who decorated, ran, and cleaned up after the dance. You truly transported us to outer space, where we enjoyed dancing, dinner, and a very intense game of musical chairs!

Family Dance was a blast

The Charter Home Study Academy multi-purpose room was transformed into a rootin' tootin' hootenanny replete with delicious offerings from food trucks, Holy Grail BBQ, Comida Mexicana, and Cowtown Creamery.
CHSA recently hosted a family dance event that brought students, parents, and faculty members together for a night of fun-filled activities.
The event, held on March 23, featured exciting activities such as raffles, dance contests, a photo booth, and line dancing lessons. Parents and students alike enjoyed grooving to the beats of their favorite tunes and showing off their dance moves.
The highlight of the event was the dance contest, where students (and parents) competed against each other by grade level to win certificates to the book fair. The contest was judged by a panel of teachers, who evaluated the performances based on creativity and enthusiasm
The raffles also kept the excitement going, with participants eagerly waiting for their numbers to be called. Lucky winners also walked away credit to the book fair.
Students pose at the photobooth
The photo booth was also a hit, with families posing for pictures in front of rustic backgrounds and props including real hay bales and saddles. The pictures were a perfect way to capture memories of the fun-filled evening.
In addition to the contests and raffles, the event also included line dancing lessons, which were led by a dance teacher, Carolyn Wakefield. Participants learned basic line dancing steps and enjoyed the opportunity to learn new moves.

The Charter Home Study Academy Elementary School family dance event was a great success, with families bonding over fun activities and creating lasting memories. The school's commitment to fostering a sense of community and family spirit was evident throughout the evening. In fact, the entire event was planned and put together by parents!

Family Dance this Thursday!
Back to School Information
We are getting ready for our new school year to begin, and are looking forward to seeing all returning students as well as a lot of new students this year.
I know a lot of families are eager to begin (or at least want to know how much time they have left for summer).
School begins August 10th.
We will have a Meet and Greet for our 6-8 students and parents on Wednesday August 10 at 12:15. We will meet in the MP room, have parents fill out any missing paperwork, pick up class schedules, and then go to the classes to meet with the teachers. Students and parents will have the opportunity to go from class to class together. If you have multiple students in these grade levels, we hope that you will be able to split up to get the information for all of the classes. This will also be an opportunity to meet with your supervising teacher. Supervising teachers will not have time for a full meeting, but you will be able to schedule an appointment time with them. Plan on two hours for the meet and greet.
Our TK-5 grade students and parents will meet on Thursday August 11 at 12:15. This will be similar to the 6-8 meeting, but if you have multiples, there will be two opportunities to meet the classroom teacher and go over the class structure. On Wednesday August 10, our TK-5 families can have their own First day back at home by setting up their home school area and organizing materials at home.
Teachers are not available until August 10. Teachers do not return to school until August 9th for a Teacher in-service day and will not be available until August 10. If you need ANYTHING, please contact Brooke or Principal Steve. We are both back to work and in the office. You can reach us at 530-622-6984, through email, or reply to this post.
I-Ready - Returning students can continue with I-ready until August 5. At that time we will roll over for the school year. I know some were struggling to get into I-ready this week. I spoke with IT and the is where the ICON is
- Log in to google with your school email
- go to the waffle and click on the ICON for DRIVE
- When you're in DRIVE, go to the waffle and scroll down to the I-READY ICON
- That should get you in. (yeah it doesn't make sense to me either).
See You Soon
Principal Steve

2020-2021
Charter Home Study Academy Students Reach Out to Elderly
During the pandemic, residents of assisted living facilities are not able to visit with friends and family and must quarantine in their rooms. With this in mind, CHSA students set to work creating greetings to cheer up elderly folks in some local facilities. Children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade used their artistic talents to draw, color, design, and write uplifting notes.
For each card or letter written, students added a link to a paper chain as a visual representation of the number of seniors who will receive a special greeting. Students engaging in this service project were able to relate to feelings of isolation during the pandemic. Brightening the day of others, brought joy to themselves as well.
“Encouraging our students to reach out to seniors during this trying time, allows them to practice not only academic reading and writing skills but also empathy and other social-emotional skills, growing each child wholly and deliberately,” said Principal Steve Bryant
Updated Guidelines For Schools
All students and Parents (and preschool age children) must be wearing masks on campus. With the state-wide mask mandate ended, we still have to wait for the mask mandate in school to be lifted (hopefully by the end of February).

Greeting Charter Home Study Academy Families!
Here is what is in the post:
- Caseload Teacher meetings are being held this week through August 14
- Log in to Google Classroom and Pathways using instructions provided by your teacher
- Grades 6-8 Distance Learning Meetings Begin Wednesday August 19
- Grades K-5 Meet and Greet on campus Thursday August 20
- Instructions for distance learning will be posted in Google Classroom by August 17
For our K-5 families, if you are overwhelmed by the weight and number of books you picked up from the school, please do not panic, the staff is here to assist you. Take the time to read through the “I Can statements” provided by your caseload teachers. If you haven’t done so yet, decide where you can “set up” your schooling area. If there is something you need please contact your caseload teacher or the office. Your caseload teacher provided information on how to log into our documentation program “Pathways” and Google Classroom. Make sure to log in to each to ensure that it works. We will use Pathways to log student activity and grades. Google classroom will have assignments posted for the grade level science focused class.
For our 6-8 families, you may not have as many books as the K-5 families, but you have more Google classes to learn. Your caseload teacher provided the codes to log in to each of your four Google classrooms. (English, History, Math Science). Use your school email address to sign in to Google Drive and use the class codes to sign in to the google classrooms. If you are having trouble contact your caseload teacher or the office. Teachers will be posting welcome videos, instructions and other materials to get started. It is also important to log in to the Pathways system using the instructions provided by your caseload teacher. We will use Pathways to log student activity and grades. Google classrooms will have assignments posted for each class. The first distance learning meetings for grades 6-8 will be on Wednesday August 19. Instructions to log in to the meeting will be posted in Google Classrooms. This is why it is very important to log in to the classes now. Instructions on how to access distance learning meetings will be posted in each class by Monday August 17 at noon.
On August 20, we are giving our K-5 families a chance to meet their classroom teachers in person! In order to create a safe environment we have established times for family groups to come in to meet the teachers. This will give students and new families the chance to meet the teacher, see the classroom, and collect some supplies for the classes.
K-5 Meet and Greet - Thursday August 20
9:00 - 9:30 Families’ Last Name A - H
9:45 - 10:15 Families’ Last Name I - P

It is very important to come in promptly at the time allotted. We need to have time to clean in between each family group, so unfortunately we will not be able to spend as much time as we would like with each family
Here is the Distance Learning Schedule for Charter Home Study Academy. It is also available at an attached pdf. We will continue to post in Parent Square to keep families updated. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your caseload teacher, the office, or reply to this message.

Charter Home Study Academy Re-opening Plans
The first day of school is August 12. Our initial six weeks of the school year, August 12 – September 25, will be conducted through distance learning. We will then re-evaluate conditions and modify accordingly.
CURRICULUM AND MATERIALS CHECKOUT AUGUST 7-14
School curriculum will be provided to all families and available to pick up on campus by appointment. Caseload teachers will reach out to families at the end of this week to set these appointments. During this appointment teachers will instruct families on how to log into Google Classroom and Pathways and families will complete the enrollment paperwork. A distance learning meeting schedule will also be available at that time.
- K-5 students will be meeting through zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a set time for each grade.
- 6-8 students will be meeting through zoom on Wednesdays and Fridays at a set time for each class. (English, History, Math, Science)
If you requested a Chromebook or Verizon Hot spot through our survey, they will be handed out at the materials pickup time. If you are more comfortable having a staff member meet you at your car, please let the teacher know when you sign up for a material checkout time.
PROGRAM PLANNING MEETINGS WITH HOME SCHOOL FAMILIES.
Each family and student will have a caseload teacher to help guide families. Meetings with Kindergarten through Fifth grade tend to have more meeting time than middle school. Middle school will have longer class Zoom meetings. Unless there is a need for materials pick up or drop off, caseload meetings can be held virtually. Teachers can also schedule in person meetings. Meetings on campus are by appointment only. Teachers will schedule the appointments with families. If you want to schedule an appointment on campus, please contact your caseload teacher.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS ON CAMPUS
For the health and safety of all individuals, we will be following the CDPH guidelines.
- On campus, masks must be worn at all times following CDPH guidelines.
- Each person must use the available hand sanitizer or hand washing station when entering and exiting any classroom or office.
- Physical distancing guidelines will be followed on campus.
- After exiting the classroom, staff will use the sanitizer and towels to wipe contact areas: table, chairs, and interior door handles.
CLASSES THROUGH DISTANCE LEARNING
Classes will be held on Zoom, will meet at a standard time, and will include direct instruction. A schedule of zoom classes along with teacher office hours will be provided for all families. Students are expected to participate in Zoom classes. K-5 students will be meeting through zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a set time for each grade. 6-8 students will be meeting through zoom on Wednesdays and Fridays at a set time for each class. (English, History, Math, and Science). Teachers will focus on group activities, discussion of subject matter, and direct instruction during these classes. Classes will be shorter than an in person class. It is very important for students to be present during these class times. In Addition to the live zoom class, each Middle School class will have at least two asynchronous (recorded) lessons with video available in google classroom per week included in the weekly assignments. K-5 class will have asynchronous science lessons and weekly guidelines/suggestions for homeschooling.
Master Agreement Signatures and Technology Survey
By now, you should have signed the Master Agreement for Charter Home Study Academy. If you have not signed the Master Agreement sent out last week, you are not enrolled. Please contact the office if you need assistance jjohnson@edcoe.org or 530-622-6984. We also sent a technology survey on Friday. Please make sure to fill out the survey if you need a Chromebook or hot spot. Senior Secretary Janet Johnson and Principal Steve Bryant will be on campus daily.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the required paperwork. We look forward to starting school and at least seeing everyone through Zoom. Take care and please let us know if there is anything you need.
Sincerely,
Principal Steve Bryant
